SSMS 2014 Solution Explorer doesn't display project or project items

$

I recently installed SSMS 2014 and SP1 on my Windows 7 Pro x64 system. I used both 2005 and 2012 prior to this installation.

I cannot figure out why Solution Explorer is not working in the new version. In prior versions, I was able to create Solutions/Projects to organize my script files. However, I cannot do the same thing in 2014. I have tried several times to create a new solution and add a script project and even a couple scripts. However, each time I created a solution and added a project, I had to add an additional project before any of it would show in Solution Explorer. After adding a second project to the solution then both projects suddenly were visible in SE. I deleted the extra project and went about adding a connection and a couple query files. These objects were visible in SE for a few sessions but if I closed a query file, the next session would yield an empty Solution Explorer and I cannot do anything about it. With SSMS closed, I opened the project and solution files in a text editor and everything looks okay (I'm no expert on these files).

I went to a Microsoft site today and found a note that indicated that future versions of SSMS will not include Solution Explorer and to avoid using it now. If I cannot easily see my files in Solution Explorer, how does that help customers to find their project files in SSMS?

Anybody else run across this issue?

Change Default data & log file directory after a SQL 2008 install?

$

Hello, after installing SQL 2008 which if say for example during install the default database data file directory was specified as F:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Data  which now want to have it as  D:\Data  folder via Server Properties in Management Studio (and realize need to restart SQL Service) is it ok to delete the prior F:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Data  folders and not breaking anything since I think SQL Server uses ACL?  Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I'm trying to install BIDS and SSMS for SQL Server 2012 on my machine. However, I can't get passed validation step that indicates SP1 needs to be installed for Visual Studio 2010. However, I have installed an re-installed VS2010 SP1 already.

Has anyone had the same problem?

Hi,

System - windows server 2008 SP2 Standard virtual machine with two drives C(windows drive ) and D(complete blank )

SQL Setup disk -   SQL Server 2012 SP1 English 64 bit Standard Edition

On Installation wizard cheked Database engine services , Management Tools - Basic ,  Management Tools - Complete and SQL client connectivity SDK .

moved with installation wizard as installation and other  folder structure in D drive as much as possible   , rest values default .

During installation progress a message appeared " A MOF Syntax error occured. "

After that a status window appears and in list
Database Engine Services   -    Failed

Important  History ,

I followed above process as it is  on this  virtual machine  executed sucessfully . Due to some issue complete D drive crashed and disappeared  , so i faced above problem when i added space to virtual machine server again as new D drive of same size and again executed sql server setup after uninstall old entries in add/remove program of windows .

New to SQL, having issues

Hello, I have a job opportunity and I need to learn SQL.  I have been studying on W3.com and using their free learning tools, and I also have taken a tutorial on it. I understand the language as it is obviously very intuitive, but I really want some hands on experience before I attempt this work assessment. I have downloaded the 2008 version of SQL because my laptop is older and when i try to download the newer version it gives me an error saying that it will not work with my OS. I don't have the money to buy Microsoft 8 right now so I am trying it with the 2008 version.

I get an option that says SQL server import and export. I try and use data on my computer to create a table and it shows me none of my files when I browse.

The problem I have is, all the tutorial stuff and the W3.com lessons teach me the language and how to use it, but they start from the point of already having SQL loaded and having databases and tables that can be queried and searched, etc. I need to know how to get information into a table so I can query, actually use the commands, etc.

I am a newb at programming, so any help is hugely appreciated. Thanks!

I hope this is the proper page to ask for help with this problem. I downloaded International QQ several months ago and it has been working quite well until recently. Now, when I try to open it I get the message "Initialization Failure 0x0000005" and it will not run. I use QQ to keep in touch with my friends in China and so really need it to talk to them. I have deleted it and reinstalled it as well as Moxilla firefox and still no change. Please give me some assistance with this dilemma.

Thanks for your assistance!!

Rule "Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 is required" failed.-> SSMS Express 2012 on Windows 7

$

I'm trying to install SQL Server Management Studio Express 2012 on my Windows 7.  I have Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile, Extended and Multi-targeting Pack on my machine.

I also have had Visual Studio Professional Edition recently installed if that makes any difference.

The install for SSMS is failling on the installation rules screen at:

---------------------------
Rule Check Result
---------------------------
Rule "Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 is required" failed.

This computer does not have the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 installed. If the operating system is Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, download and install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 from http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=22. If the operating system is Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, enable the .NET Framework 3.5 feature. A computer restart may be required after installing.
---------------------------

Taking a hint from the error message,  I went to Turn Features On and Off,  but I saw only Windows Communication Foundation HTTP Activation

and

Windows Communication Foundation Non-HTTP Activation

under microsoft NET Framework 3.5.1.  So I checked those boxes and restarted. No help.

One possible other guess from this thread:

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqldensetup/thread/c06365c5-ce96-4fc8-a12b-6c123c39044c/

is that I may need to "enable the application role (including .NET 3.5) through the OS"?

How would I do that on a Windows 7?

Or if there are other solutions, please let me know.

Thanks!

SQL Server 2008 Express R2 installation problem

Goodevening,
I am trying to instal SQL Server 2008 Express R2 on my system (Windows 7 Professional SP1) for some time now but it fails to install. I have downloaded the .exe file (SQLEXPRWT_x86_ENU) and I run it as admin. It starts extracting files in my external hdd and when the extraction is completed I have to authorise the setup.exe to make changes to my pc. I press yes and then nothing happens. For a single moment i can see a cmd window to popup and then everything goes away. The extracted file is deleted automatically and there is no process in the background that shows that something  happens.

I have tried to do that process without my external hdd and the same happens.

Anyone knows what's going on and how can I fix this?

MOF syntax error 0x84BB0001 installing SQL Server 2014 Management Studio

I have been struggling with this for days and tried every solution I have found without success. This is keeping me from working and is getting really frustrating.

I am trying to install SQL Server 2014 Management Studio on two workstations. One has Windows 8.1 installed, The other Windows 7. I recently update my windows server from 2012 Essentials to 2012 R2 Essentials. I created new domain users and made them administrators on both workstations.

I have not been able to install any edition on either of the workstations. I get the same exception: MOF syntax error 0x84BB0001

Please help while I still have some hair left!

hi,

its been week i am trying to setup SSL for SQL Server 2012. below are my setup details.

1: wildcard certificate from trusted CA. *.mydomain.com (already have and perfectly working with or website)

2: SQL Server 2012 with SP2

Now I need to setup SSL on SQL Server Connection for that purpose I want to use my same certificate.

my Server name is: server01.mydomain.local.

SSL certificate has 'Server Authentication (1.3.6.1.5.5.7.3.1)'  withKeySpec option of 'AT_KEYEXCHANGE'.

problem is i cannot see my certificate under SQL Configuration Manager. and if I try to use the server thumbprint in the registry, it doesnt starts the SQL Service.

SQL Host Upgrade

We are running SQL 2012 on a WS2008 R2 host.  I'm looking for a process to upgrade the host OS from 2008R2 to 2012 R2.  Is it as simple as stopping SQL and upgrading the host?

Are there any "gotcha's"?

Thank you.

upgrade to 2012 and data compare with 2008R2

hi,

We are planning to upgrade to SQL 2012 from 2008r2. While doing so we want to do structure and data compare between 2008R2 database and 2012.

One of our developer suggested to restore 2008R2 database to 2012 twice one with compatibility mode of 2008R2 and other to 2012. I do not think it was a good idea, cause once database is restored to 2012 it is a upgraded database even if i set compatibility mode to 2008r2 level.

My suggestion was to have 2008r2 on its own instance and use linked server or sql redgate like tool to do a compare.

Can anyone suggest few more points related to caveat in this approach, or is it ok to follow this approach? Thank you.
