Hello I have 3 Virtual SQL servers in a 2012 HyperV Failover Cluster.
They are all running OS 2008R2 SP1 with SQL 2008R2 SP1. We would like to upgrade the OS to 2012R2 and leave the SQL version where it is. I cannot seem to find if this supported or a bad idea.
I did see there is a SP2 for SQL 2008R2 so was planning on upgrading SQL to that prior to the OS upgrade. Any advice or experiences in doing this would be appreciated.
PS. I have other SQL servers in the cluster running 2012R2 and SQL2012 so that is why we want to upgrade the OS to bring themin line with the server manager monitoring tools for the OS. I don't have licensing at this point to upgrade SQL itself on these servers. Thanks.
